Civic Hype EU seeks to strengthen civic engagement, uphold EU values, and counter the growing threats posed by disinformation and manipulation in democratic processes. Rooted in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, the project fosters the development of an open, inclusive, and rights-based democratic society. By mobilizing civil society actors, journalists, educators, and young people, CivicHype EU builds a transnational network committed to enhancing media literacy, exposing disinformation, and promoting civic dialogue based on evidence and critical thinking. The project strategically unites a geographically balanced consortium from six EU countries—Belgium, Italy, France, Romania, Bulgaria, and Portugal—ensuring broad regional and national coverage and fostering cross-border collaboration. Over 24 months, CivicHype EU will implement 33 activities across six countries, structured into seven interconnected main events focused on education, awareness campaigns, training, creative content development, community engagement, and policy advocacy. Through these activities, CivicHype EU will stimulate active participation in EU democratic life, strengthen European values of freedom, equality, and solidarity, and promote participatory democracy by encouraging citizens’ informed engagement in public debate. CivicHype EU adopts proactive strategies to disrupt the spread of misleading content and limit the influence of coordinated information manipulation. By equipping young people and local communities with critical skills and fostering democratic resilience, the project contributes to safeguarding public debate and reinforcing active European citizenship. More than 1,700 direct participants—spanning diverse backgrounds and including men, women, and non-binary individuals—will be actively involved, ensuring that the project’s impact is inclusive, representative, and sustainable.
